Today we are visiting a Bribri community in the Talamanca Mountains.
The Bribri are a small indigenous group in the rainforest of Costa Rica.
They have their own language.
Originally, they had no written language, but they adopted the script
from the Spanish.
A Bribri dictionary also exists.
A shaman is the spiritual leader and healer in the Bribri community.
He possesses profound knowledge of medicinal plants, performs rituals
for hunting grounds, and serves as a guardian of the culture.
Shaman training is intensive and traditionally lasts about 20 years. |
