Position and size
New York is situated at the degree of latitude of Neapel, 41° latitude north and 74° longitude west. The whole city extends over 785 square kilometers. Only one of the five boroughs is situated on mainland; the Bronx. Manhattan and Staten Island are islands, Brooklyn and Queens make the west point of Long Island. Manhattan with 59 square kilometers is the smallest, but the most densely populated boroughs, with 21,5km length and 1,3km to 3,7km width. New York is situated at the estuary of des Hudson River. The east river, which bordered Mantattan at the east, is not a river but a connection between Long Island Sound and the Upper New York Bay.
