The dam is one part of a system, which controls the once wild Colorado, and is significant for farming and current supply of electricity for Arizona, Nevada und California. The Lake Mead, damed by the Hoover Dam, has a length of 177 km and a depth of 152 m. The industrial and private consumption of water by more than 14 million people is here satisfied; the producing of electrical energy is 4 billion kilowatt hours, which is enough for 500.000 households.
