Flagler, Henry
(1830-1913) 1852 partner with Harkness Grain Cy. (He married the daughter of
Harkness and was the half-brother of the Standard oil Financier Stephen Harkness).
1867 Harkness financed a Rockefeller-buisiness by $100.000 become partner with
Rockefeller, Andrews & Flagler (as from 1872 Standard oil Corp.). Harkness put Flagler
in as manager by Rockefeller. Flagler was the right hand from 1867 on. He had a share by
the group of companies of 9%. After 1891, when his wife died, he retired from
Oil-buisiness. He managed himself as Tourism-pionier in Florida: Flagler built the first
railway at the eastcoast till Miami and erected some Hotels along the line. He founded the
town Miami and West Palm Beach (1890). 1904-1912 he extended his railway over the atolls
to Key West by great technical problems. Tourism-pionier/Bahamas-Flagler Collage in St.
Augustine(Florida) founded - Whitehall erected 1902 (one of the most beautiful and bigest
palaces of the USA).
