"Downtown" covers the area
between Mainstreet and 9th Street. In the early fifties developed parallel to
the strip the gambling. In the old town you see besides small hotels and motels hotels and
known casinos like the Plaza, Four Queens and Golden Nugget as well. Further you find in
old town the railway station, the Greyhound-Bus-station, the police station, the post
office and various administration buildings, the city hall and the Marriage License
Bureau. So as Las Vegas Boulevard got importance by new hotels and casinos, the glamour of
Downtown faded. This changed 1994, when the centre of downtown, the Fremont Street, grew
to a pedestrian precinct, and made to a tourist attraction by a project of 70 Mill.
Dollar. At the Glitter Gulch there are arranged the "Fremont Street Experience"
light show every night.
