The Ba'Games is a game going back to a heathen tradition being played on on Orkney in Kirkwall (maintown) and Stromness since centuries at turn of the year. This game organize as well villages in Caithness (Selkirk) in the scotchs border-region (Duns, Jedburgh, Melrose, Roxburgh) and Scone in Perthshire. There are scarce firm rules and no limitation of players. Normal about 300 inhabitants join in a game. In Kirkwall there plays the team of the south town (Uppies) against the team of the north town (Doonies). At 13.00p.m. begins the game in front of the cathedral by throwing the Ba' - these called playingball - in to the crowd. All the town is the playing field. Finish of the game is to transport the Ba' through the town to one of the two goals. Those are apart more than one mile; the Zppie goal is a crossroad, the Doonies goal is the harbor. You can imagine the organisation to day relative bloodless was original celtic ritual. Instead of a ball it was played by a stone-ball (found in Orkney). It ended perhaps for a player fatal.
