Departure at 4.30Uhr in the morning. We hike by darkness, degrees below zero and flashlight. The ascent is heavy. We climb slowly upward step by step on S-curves. We must rest again and again. At sunrise we are already situated half the way to summit.
After an ascent of 2 1/2 hours we stand, Ilse, Nawang our Sherpa and me at 8.00a.m. on the Gokyo Ri in a hight of 17.590 feet.
By cloudless sky we enjoy the phantastic view of Everest 29.198 feet, Nuptse 26.000 feet and Lhotse 28.053feet.
The view down to the Gokyo Valley with the three lakes and the enormous Ngozumpa Glacier.
