Today we drive 250 kilometers from Kakadu National Park to the northernmost city in Australia and also the capital of the Northern Territory, Darwin.
Darwin is considered cosmopolitan and a gateway to the Asian countries, which are practically on the doorstep. Life in the Top End seems to follow different rules. Average temperatures of 35-40 degrees in hot, humid air are the rule, and at night the hoped-for cooling is almost non-existent. The lifestyle therefore seems to be particularly slow and sweat-saving. Non-locals, so we, can be recognized primarily by the fact that they walk way too fast or are outside at inopportune times. The typical Darwinian usually only moves from one air-conditioned room to another during the day.
